Drywalling in Country Hills
Drywall in Country Hills, Laurentian and the neighbourhoods along the Ottawa Street and Strasburg Road corridors.
Country Hills and Laurentian were built mostly in the 1980s and 1990s, which puts them squarely in the stipple-ceiling era and at the age where the first finished basement is being redone. The ceiling work is the most requested job: a lab test of the texture first, then scrape-and-skim where the ceiling is sound or an overlay of new board where it is painted, patched or best left alone. Basements here were often finished by a previous owner to a standard that shows its age, and a full re-board is sometimes the honest route when the framing, insulation and vapour barrier behind the old panelling or drywall turn out to be the real problem. Re-insulating is permit work in Kitchener, so that is settled before the walls come down. Water damage from the first generation of finished-basement plumbing — a failed supply line, a leaking shower pan — is the other steady call, and the cause gets fixed before new board goes in.

Frequently asked questions
Is the price different in Doon South than in the older parts of Kitchener?
Not because of the address. New-build basements tend to be simpler to board — open, square, bare — and the older houses carry more unknowns behind the walls, so the quotes differ for reasons that would be true anywhere. Both get the same site visit and the same written quote.
Do you work on apartment buildings or commercial units?
The focus is houses: single, semi, townhouse and the second units inside them. Small commercial repairs can sometimes be fitted in, but a multi-unit building is a different scale of job and we will say so rather than take it on badly.
Do the permit rules change outside Kitchener?
The Building Code is provincial, so the fire-separation details are the same, but each municipality runs its own permit process and zoning. The guidance on this site is the City of Kitchener's; a property in Woolwich or Wilmot Township is checked against that township's rules before anything is quoted.
